Well, this certainly is a strange sentence to finally be able to write, but here goes:
The Seventh Echo is out today!
This is my third novel, and possibly the one I’m most proud of. Because it’s the first I’ve dedicated to my mother, who was an avid reader, and the book where I did all of the formatting myself.
For months, I’ve been slowly introducing everyone to Dan, Laurie, Danny, Fairmont, and a place called Iron Forge. I’ve teased images and quotes and even shared the entire first chapter, all while carefully trying not to give too much away.
But the one character I haven’t introduced you to yet is… me.
Because if you look closely enough, I’m probably hiding on more pages of this book than anyone else.
No, I’m not Dan Mercer. Fairmont isn’t exactly Easton, PA, and the events of the novel aren’t about my life. But the emotions, nostalgia, memories, and questions about growing older all come from somewhere that feels very real to me. If you grew up where I did, I’m sure more than once you will hear whispers of things you remember.
Maybe J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, was right. All children, except one, grow up.
But after writing The Seventh Echo, I’m not convinced growing up means leaving that child behind. Maybe he’s still there—in the places we remember, in the people we once knew, and in the things we can’t forget.
And maybe, every once in a while if we listen carefully, we can still hear the echo.
After all this time, the story isn’t mine anymore. It’s yours.
I hope you enjoy reading The Seventh Echo as much as I enjoyed writing it. I can’t wait to hear what you think.
